ICECO units are equipped with a 3-stage battery protection system. You can set the unit to "High" to ensure the fridge shuts off long before your vehicle's starter battery is too low to crank the engine. Because the SECOP compressor is so efficient, a properly insulated unit can often keep temp for hours even when the power is cycled off.
Can these units be used as a true freezer, or just a cooler?

Absolutely. Unlike cheap thermoelectric coolers that only drop a few degrees below the outside temp, ICECO units are ruggedized compressor fridges.
